Path to the Temple – Byōbu

This work is born from the quiet poetry of a journey. The slow, intentional walk that leads toward a sacred place. It speaks not only of a physical path but of an inner pilgrimage: the temple as a space within, intimate and silent, where we return to ourselves.

I created this piece after my most recent journey to Japan in 2025, deeply moved by the ascent through the forest in Nikko toward Tōshō-gū, a walk suspended in stillness, where stone, cedar and light guide you gently toward something both ancient and eternal.

Each element is guided by the philosophy of Wabi-Sabi, which embraces the quiet beauty of transience, natural irregularity and the subtle traces of time.

Every mark, grain and variation becomes part of the story, honouring the material’s authenticity rather than concealing it.

Painted in acrylic on raw wooden panels.

Dimensions: 100 x 150 cm

The artwork will be shipped carefully wrapped in dedicated packaging and accompanied by its certificate of authenticity.
